Time in Valheim

We know two things about time in Valheim:

  1. The solar period is 30 minutes long. We spend 21 minutes in daylight, and 7 at night. That gives us a fraction in daylight of 7/10, or about 16.8 hours of daylight when scaled to a 24-hour period.
  2. At noon, shadows are equi-umbral. That is, the sun is at a 45 degree angle when it's at its maximum elevation. You can tell this by making a sun dial with a mark on the face at the same distance from the gnomon as the gnomon is tall.

So, where in the world do we get daylight for 16.8 hours on the same day as a 45 degree solar noon? Reykjavik comes pretty close on the 15th and 16th of May. The day is just a little shorter, but probably good enough. I wonder if the developers had Iceland specifically in mind for their solar cycle?

That gives me thoughts about biomes. Rather than the Ashlands, I'd rather see a broken volcanic landscape with lava flows, geysers, hot springs, and fumaroles. I think that would be more interesting than a generic fire land.
