I finally got my 2 star boar breeding program back online after accidentally killing all but one of pigs. I found a long lost tamed boar and brought him back into the fold where he promptly made babies with my sole remaining 2 star sow.
Fast forward a day later and I decide I'm going to not risk losing all my 2 star boar so I resolved to move a boar to each of my two other breeding sites and have some redundancy in my setup. That's all well and good but the site I had setup, foolishly back when I first started playing and was basically Jon Snow, was smack dab in the middle of the island, no where near the shore. But old world problems require old world solutions so I spent some time building holding pens at modest distances between my farm base and the shore line closest to the first of my remote breeding locations. I ate my Wheaties and using the harpoon, I dragged one of the buggers to the first pen. Closed the door, released him to recover my stamina and repeated to the second pen, then the final pen by the shore. This one I setup next to an abandoned hut which I reclaimed and repurposed into a campsite. I dropped some food for the piggy and got busy building the ramp from the shore to the ship to load the boar. Rested for the night and got to work the next morning.
By now the boar had recovered a lot of his health. I've never transported an animal by ship so I had no idea what I was doing, but I got the bastard on the ship and sat down at the rudder without releasing the line. Unfortunately I was low on stamina because a goddamn grayling came out of nowhere and attacked just as I was pulling the boar to the ship. By the time I killed the bum and tracked my boar down again, I used up more stamina than I realized and so when I got him on the ship, the line broke and the fucker jumped overboard. Luckily he went to shore and I got him back on board. And so I set sail for a not so far off distant land.
It was morning, a clear day, and the channel between the two islands did not have an Ocean biome so I wasn't worried. Wind actually worked with me and I got across pretty fast. I should have known better. As I'm coming around a piece of land that jutted out and started heading to where I was going to land, what do I see? Big ass blue mofo standing on the shore. Fuuuuuck. Ship runs aground, I cut the boar loose and head off to fight the troll. As I'm jumping out of the boat, I see my boar jumping into the water. UGH, but at least he wasn't rushing headlong at the troll. Taking out my mighty atgeir, I slay the beast and turn back to my boar. I see him swimming to shore. Whilst fending off an attack from a greydwarf. Crap. Pulled out my huntsmans bow and let one fly. Deadshot dropped the greydwarf with one hit and save the boar. Victory! Or so I thought.
The beast comes running ashore and I ready my harpoon when I realize the boar is down to a sliver of health. If I harpoon him, he dead. So I resolved to push the bastard up to my base, which thankfully isn't far from the shore but is up a steep hill. Night is rapidly approaching, my rested buff is running out, and on top of that I'm wet because in my rush to jump out and fight the troll, I landed in the water. Took me almost 2 minutes of pushing the shit up the hill before I finally got him within the base walls. From there it was actually pretty easy to herd him into the pen with my no star tamed boar. This morning when I checked on the site, there was a 2 star piglet in the pen.
Mission accomplished.
