Let's face it, we have all found ourselves doing something else while supercruising, autodocking and even jumping. As another subredditor said, 'If you haven't done something else while playing ED, have you even played it?' Yeah, when I want to give it full attention, I go for some combat, mining, exploring planets on foot or by SRV, etc. But trading, hauling things and passengers, even exploring space, can be done with a large chunk of passive play time. I think 60-70% of my ED play time is passive.
The fact of the matter is that I would love to game more but I just struggle finding time with all the jobs and kids I have. But I have found a refuge in ED, which kind of calms me while I'm working on projects from home. And a funny thing is, it feels even more immersive for that reason; as if I'm actually flying in my ship and doing my office stuff in its cabin in between those moments when I need to pull some switch. Even my wife says it feels that way and as if she's there with me due to humming sounds in the flat (I'm not always playing with headphones obviously).
I'm basically living there in my ship as I live my regular life. So I had ED running while I was researching, writing, emailing, having phone conversations, cuddling with kids, doing stuff in the kitchen, going to the bathrom, shaving, nail-clipping, even taking a shower. And all the while, I'm making progress in ED – and it feels great.
So, your turn:
What have you done while playing ED?
And what is your estimate on how much of your ED play time is passive?
