What was the purpose of locking some llamas behind a paywall?

As we all know, certain weapons and heroes were put behind a paywall a while ago, but the thing is – they don't seem to appear very often in the shop and I'm really struggling to understand that decision.

If they were planning to monetize those llamas, they'd be in the shop more often instead of "super melee llamas" and other crappy llamas that no one ever buys unless some poor soul does a whoopsie misclick it here and there.

If they were not planning to monetize them, why they were put behind a paywall?! When there is obviously a lack of new content, why would they give up on "Beyond the stellar horizon" questline just like that? Even that would have been a change, but nope – we got annoying chromes once again and next season we're probably getting Hit the road.

Few days ago it's been 100 days since sci fi llamas last shop appearance. I'm aware that some files regarding sci fi thingies have recently been changed, so maybe there is a hope of seeing Beyond the stellar horizon event coming back, BUT if that's not the case….dear Epic, we desperately need daily llama shop revamp (among many other things).
