As of typing this, STW is at 47k+ and as an EU player I can easily get into any game I want. Judging from player counts of other games, 40k+ isn't anything to laugh at, yet why doesn't Epic see that people actually care about the game?
You can say that STW makes less money, which is true. But that doesn't change that there are also less ways of spending money, and that even so, the one STW bundle you can actually purchase is always one of the higher selling bundles on PS Store.
Also, if STW sells less money, why don't they at least try releasing a STW exclusive Item Shop featuring STW related characters, emotes, even maybe skins for materials, or your Storm Shield. Won't this incentivize BR players to buy it for the skins, and potentially try the game?
Maybe more people would play if the gigantic amount of bugs were and added Twine storyline?
Instead they investing everything in turning BR into Roblox by burying the actual game modes under the countless "RED VS BLUE, Box PVP, Bed Wars" clones they have which according to unhappy BR players, isn't working.
