I’m an Indian who plays on SEA servers, and recently I had a game where someone called us out as dirty brown pigs who drink cow piss, completely unprovoked. This isn’t the first time either.
It seems to me that Asian cultures don’t seem to be dealing with racism properly. Because our societies tend to be more homogeneous, there is a lot of animosity between different ethnic groups within Asia, which itself is diverse. I’m sure racism goes all ways, but as an Indian, primarily I’ve received attacks from the phillipino community. Is there any particular reason for this? Or is it just that Dota players just have sad lives and vent it through toxic behavior online?
Additional info: I also want to make it clear that I’m very familiar with western norms as well, and that’s why I’m making this post. I’m actually an American citizen from an Indian background. Blatant racism in online gaming certainly exists in America, but it doesn’t seem as normalized as in SEA
