Why does Valve sell stream rights if The International has always been funded by the community?

Greettings all,

I am not sure if this sub is aware or cares much, but Valve has sold streaming rights for:

a) Regional qualifiers

b) Wildcard matches

c) TI2022 groupstage

To a bunch 3rd party orgs for literally millions of dollars (Russian streaming rights cost 1.7 mil US$ and were sold to a fucking betting shithole BetBoom). Seeing this as most of us here will buy BP and fund with our money the tournament once again this year I am here asking these questions. Wasn't the TI always a community celebration without ads and shady bet sponsors? How is this not brought up / discussed? How in the world Valve gets to milk the streaming rights while community has to bear through this fuckfest of a stream (at least partially?)

Rant over, thanks .
