Recently there are a lot post about how boring the game become to a ton of people, and how they are start losing interest in it. This is why I tried to collect up some really frustrating thing, which might can lead to this kind of fatigue.
- **Leavers.** There are not a safe to leave option in rankeds when someone rage quits. This force the players to play a 57 minutes impossible match. When this happens you are chained to play against an unfair 4v5 situation which leads to certain lose around 70% of the time. Even more percent when others start AFK as well, or just simply lose hope which is easily happens after the certain person had a lose streak and now encounter a leaver as well. To make matters worse you can't even give up a match like in other familiar highly successfull Valve game Counter Strike: Global Offensive. There if a teammate leaves the match on his own you have the option at least to give up against the impossible odds.
- **No option to surrender.** "There is no bad thing in losing" as the famous quote takes from -Kijiro Sasaki, became famous the recent Netflix adaptation Record of Ragnarök. Lose a game is sometime much better than win one, because we learn from our mistakes and can reach further. However this isn't the case right now in Dota. Dota act like a child desperatly grasping for winning no matter what, which wiser and older players are not really comfortable with. Nowadays a game quickly can become a STOMP, having 16-0 for the enemy side, and you are yet chained again another 57 minute game without the option of surrender and think over your mistakes. Instead of this you get frustrated, start flaming in chat and force start the next match learning anything, after the fountain camp ended. Not to mention that many people still experiencing smurfs in game pretty frequently, even after Valve finally fought against them.
- **"Overall hostage taking."** Is a popular phrase came from other games, also the main problem in my opinion. As the two reasons I mentioned above, they are both connected to this main issue. Game Hostage Taking basically means, that a game is designed to keep players in certain situations against their own will. This can be in-game matches, achivements or worse cases payment wall. In the case of Dota, we have the ludicrously long matches which can easily take up to 50-70 minutes just to play a SINGLE match. This option alone easily the cause Dota not to reach as high player count as CS:GO did. But to also have not a single mitigation by taking away your right to surrender and making it as restrict as possible. I can sit here and write hours about punishments and penalties you can collect through a single game, but not a single ease in case the match isn't going as expected.
Nowadays starting a Dota match really started to feel same as going a jail or something. Cannot really thing anything else than "Do I have at least 70-90 minutes to play a SINGLE match certainly or not?" or more usually "Do I really want to risk to waste 1 hour of my life in case I encounter a smurf, rage quiter, stomp game?"
I tried to collect as many data as possible to oversee why people started to get bore of Dota, and this is the most upclose I could come up with. I personally do enjoy to play the game still very much, but as I learned these today, I can agree these problems spoil this game very much. The worst fact is, these problems could be so easy to fix, just implement a single button, to literally make stonks.(I'm interested in your opinion down below!)
