With the recent news of the Banhammer 40k coming down on folks using maphacks and otherwise accessing hidden information, there’s a lot of buzz about Overwolf’s Dota Plus plugin and where that falls in the conversation. It is unequivocally not cheating.
“But Unputtaball,” I hear you saying, “Not everyone uses the plugin, and my best heroes get banned and then I lose because of it.”
To which I say… tough? While not everyone uses the app, it only displays information which anyone can access through multiple different avenues. You can choose to hide your public match data, then the problem ceases and you may continue spamming in peace.
“But Unputtaball! It rips private data too!”
No, it doesn’t, and it never has afaik. There are similar apps which do, and to do this they access hidden information in the game. We can pretty safely assume that a portion of those 40,000 were using these apps and methods based on the release from Valve.
“But all of this is beside the fact that banning certain players’ main heroes is unfair!”
No, it really isn’t. Your mmr is a reflection of your general skill level in the game, not with a certain hero. If you can only win at X mmr with Y hero, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you aren’t X mmr. Either learn more heroes, or learn to cope with your mmr. All you’re doing when you cry “foul” about bans in pubs is exposing yourself for learning heroes instead of learning how to play dota.
Sincerely,
A filthy Pudge spammer
