I, having gone through the rank system and reaching Predator both seasons, feel there are many glaring issues with the current ranking system, so i decided to make a cost system of my own. This is the ranking system I created for the upcoming season. I think it improves on a lot of the issues that ranked currently has.
All of the current values are shifted one up (-36 is Plat 3 rather than 4, -28 is D3 rather than 4 etc.)
The ranks costs for each tier increase in the following ratios IV=-0, III=-6, II=-3, I=-3
For Example:
plat IV is -30 (the same cost as Gold I or -0)
Plat III is -36 (-6 from Plat IV)
Plat II is -39 (-3 from Plat III)
and so on for every rank
This ranking system seeks to solve first, the issue of hard stuck players, currently when a player achieves a new tier in a rank nothing changes. This means that players are either stuck at the bottom tier of a rank, or they will achieve the next full rank up. The new ranking system would counteract this by having the entry costs increase slowly through each tier rather than jump at the start of each rank.
this would allow a rank like plat 1 to mean more than plat 3, whereas currently they both simply read as "haven't gotten to diamond yet but will if they keep playing"
I also moved the old costs each up one, that way when a players achieves the 4th tier of a new rank, rather than having to face both new harder enemy's as well as increased entry cost they will no longer have the increased cost.
This would allow players ranking up to better get used to the new difficulty of enemy players without increasing the point cost which causes players to become hardstuck, which is where the next part comes in:
Introducing deranking. Players who consistently lose RP at the bottom tier of a rank will be deranked after, say, 3x that tiers cost per game (-90 for platinum, -126 for diamond) this way players who belong in platinum I and cannot compete in diamond after a few games would be sent back to platinum to prevent them from being stuck with harder lobbies that are not enjoyable.
Next I added a new rank, Masters. Currently, the vast majority of predators are sitting at the bottom of predator around 10,000 RP, adding a new rank to take the place of predator and moving predator up aims to solve this problem by giving the high ranking players something more to achieve. And to separate the great players from the truly exceptional players. (this is mostly because I've heard people complaining that there are too many predators proportionate to the player base).
also the cost in predator in this new system isn't super well thought through i just subtracted 3 to Master I's cost but it could be 72 to fit with the current system or changed for balancing or whatever.
I also think there could be changes made to the kill system and how assists are awarded, maybe making it based on any damage dealt as long as the person killed doesn't fully heal to ensure all players who participated in a kill are rewarded.
All in all I think this ranking system would make a huge impact on the game so that ranked mode can be something people actually want to play rather than simply something you rank up for end season rewards and never touch again.
