If you played any ranked in season 3 you will know the matchmaking isn't very good – with respect to the season 3 goal of "Create a true measure of skill in Apex Legends". https://www.ea.com/games/apex-legends/news/ranked-league-series-2

1. the individual divisions (IV, III, II, I) within a rank tier serve almost no purpose in ranking players since if you're able to accumulate pts up to division III then you can likely continue doing the same thing to II, I, etc since only the tiers themselves affect matchmaking.
2. there is no demotion between tiers. So what you're left with is a large pool of players with a massive degree of variation in skill level in the bottom division of every tier – with very few players populating the (III, II, I) divisions. Not only that but it provides an unpleasant experience for those with pts to lose when they are paired with someone who cannot lose pts (and therefore won't care about winning or losing).
3. bronze is a 'free' tier. So what we really end up with is only 5 "categories" of players – silver 4, gold 4, plat 4, diamond 4, or pred with almost nothing to differentiate in between. This is a system that only tells you if you're a 2/10, 4/10, 6/10, 8/10 or 10/10.
4. within each individual match of 60 players there is a huge difference between the best teams and the worst teams (full-stack preds vs three soloq diamond4) which I don't think counts as fair skill-based matchmaking at all

However I understand that perfect matchmaking balanced around premade/solo and individual divisions would create much longer queue times which nobody wants, especially at the upper echelon. What I am suggesting is this: Changing ranked to a soloq mode and allow tier demotion.

A common example: (D1 D1 D2) vs (D4 D3 D3) would become (D1 D3 D3) vs (D1 D2 D4) which is much more balanced

What are your guys' thoughts on this? Or maybe you have a better suggestion, and if so I would like to hear it!
