So I got home from my classes today having been looking forward to the highly anticipated “System Override” event in Apex. After spending what felt like an eternity downloading the update, I was finally able to log in to the game.
The excitement of seeing new cosmetic items available to unlock got me hyped for the event in the first place. As soon as I navigated to the page for all the limited time cosmetics, I was deflated. It’s already enough that the game earns it’s money through loot boxes but the fact that they’re so expensive now for the System Override cosmetics is a disgrace. 700 coins for 1 pack? Shameful! Not even that, most of the cosmetics are mediocre in my opinion. How can they justify their price point?
I am aware that there are some cosmetics you can unlock but realistically who wants them. It’s the fact that there’s no way of unlocking those loot box only cosmetics without buying them. What’s the point in the event if you can’t even unlock many of the limited time cosmetics through completing challenges? Why can’t EA actually think of the dedicated players and actually reward them for their loyalty by offering them an opportunity to unlock all of the limited time items through completing challenges rather than fuelling gambling addictions?
Dangling that Octane heirloom in front of players is disgraceful, it should literally say “buy enough System Override packs and you’ll get it on the house”.
I’d like to hear your thoughts on this, surely I’m not the only one with this view?
