An open letter on the subject of blocking missions

Dear Wargaming,

First off, I'd like to thank you for the personal mission campaigns. I genuinely enjoy them (mostly) and think they are great additions to the game. However, I take issue with one of the mission types: damage blocking missions.

What is so cruel about damage blocking missions? Protection is one of the 3 main aspects of a tank after all; shouldn't missions reflect this? Yes, I think they should, but the current way this is implemented is borderline sadistic. The worst offenders I've encountered so far of HT12-4 and Bloc9-2. For these missions you have to block 3 or 2 times your HP in damage and do 3000 or 2500 dmg respectively. One wouldn't think these would be a problem, but, at least in my experience, as soon as one reaches a position where they can use their armor to block the requisite damage, the enemy loads gold, HE, or stops shooting you entirely. Unlike most missions, which a sufficiently skilled player can complete by their own merit, these missions are dependent as much if not more so on enemy stupidity than player prowess. And the icing on the cake is that the tanks the would seem to be best for these missions, the superheavies, have the most HP at their tiers, so they have to block absurd amounts to complete the missions. If you manage to overcome all these obstacles, you can still be screwed over by not getting enough damage.

So how can we fix this? How can we make these missions fun instead of maddening? My first suggestion is simple: when a player is hit by an HE shell, they should get credit for blocking the difference between the average damage of the HE shell and the damage received as this is damage mitigated by armor. (Damage blocked = AvgDmg – ReceivedDmg). Secondly, I change to mission requirements to something like "Receive X number of hits, block at least Y number of them" or "Block more shots than penetrate you (min 5)" or even just lower the requirements. These missions are driving me to insanity, and I want to save my directives for (theoretically) harder missions on the 279e grind.

Sincerely,
Canteen

I'm trying this mainly in the VK 100.01(P) (which I bought solely for bloc9-2), E-75 TS, and occasionally Pz VII as these have weakspots, so people will at least try to pen you as opposed to shooting HE; at least, that's my theory. I've been one shot of dmg away from it in the E75 TS and 80 blocked damage away in the VK. I have all the German and Japanese superheavies unlocked as well as the Lowe, E75 TS, and VK tier 8 prem. Do you have any advice? Is it just a matter of getting lucky?

How would you change the missions?
