If you are ever looking for advice or tips on completing 279e missions in videos and Reddit/forum posts you will see people say/write "Keep resetting until you get a big game" This is bad advice, you should never reset if your performance so far is at or above the average needed per battle to complete the mission.
This advice is everywhere, you see it frequently on Reddit, sometimes in YouTube videos, and even in the most popular 279e mission advice article: https://hokx.com/wot/object-279e-campaign-guide/
"Bloc-9 … Keep resetting the mission until you get a good result (4k-5k) on one of the open maps."
"Coalition-3 … and keep resetting it until you have an epic game."
This advice makes sense at first glance, Let's take Alliance-8 for example, which is 'Damage or destroy 25 enemy internal modules or crew members in 10 battles'. Some would say "Reset until you get 7 crit hits in the first battle" with the idea that then afterwards, you would only need to get 18 crit hits in the remaining 9 battles, or only 2 crits a game.
Instead, you should first determine the average 'x' per game in order to complete the mission. For Alliance-8 this is 2.5 crit hits per game, For Coalition-6 (75 pens in 10 games) this would be 7.5 penetrations a game. For Union-10 (15,000 blocked in 10 games) this would be 1,500 per game. For Coalition-3 (5 Medals/Battle Hero awards in 10 games) this would be 0.5 medals per game.
If you are ever above or at that average per game DO NOT RESET. For example if after 1 battle you have 3 crit hits for Alliance do not reset. If you have only 1 medal after two battles for Coalition-3 do not reset.
Why?
You will never put yourself in a better position by resetting when you're on track to complete the mission. Say for example you only got 3 crit hits on the first battle, your mission now is to get 22 crits in 9 games, which is easier than 25 crits in 10 games because it's less crits per game and it's shorter. It makes no sense to reset to get an effectively harder mission.
Say you are trying Coalition-3 and on the first two battles you only got 1 medal. Your mission is now "Get 4 medals in 8 games" which is easier than getting 5 in 10, so don't reset.
"But wouldn't it be nice to have a monster game as your first battle? it makes the next 9 battles have a much lower requirement"
Sure, but if you're above average it still doesn't make sense to reset. Let's say you got 3 crit hits in the first battle, you now have two choices: reset and hope your next battle is a monster game (Afterwards you will need to get 15 crit hits in 9 battles or 1.66 per game) or don't reset and hope your next game is a monster battle (Afterwards you would need 12 crits in 8 battles or 1.5 per game). You are better off if you don't reset.
It's not even an opinion, if you reset when you are on track to completion it's just objectively bad.
