As we all know, crew training is a critical aspect of WoT gameplay, and the skills you train can easily make the difference between winning and losing. Repairs, 6th sense, camo, all can have a huge impact on the game.
But of course, there are other skills as well. The ones I've looked at today are Snap Shot and Smooth Ride. Snap Shot decreases the dispersion factor upon turret traverse, so training it means the reticle won't bloom out as much when turning your turret. Smooth Ride decreases the dispersion factor for moving.
But tbh, they aren't great skills, besides maybe as a 3rd or 4th skill. Why? Because their effect is surprisingly small.
These stats are from the Emil I, pulled straight from tanks.gg, site EVERY tanker should be using frequently. (shoutout to u/Jak_Attacka) I've labelled it for your convenience.
Smooth Ride decreases movement bloom by 4.23%. Snap Shot decreases rotation bloom by 8.2%. Both are dwarfed by the effect of Vertical Stabilizers, which, as advertised in the equipment description, is 20%. Now of course these aren't useless. And of course training them and then retraining your crew to have BiA isn't a terrible idea. But as skills themselves, they aren't exceptional. Repairs and camo are more important for most tanks imo.
I must admit that what prompted this is skill4ltu's awesome index of tank recommendations, (skill4ltu,eu) which covers equipment loadouts, field modifications, and most recently, crew skills. I was browsing through when I saw the skill recommendations for the AMX 30B. The first recommended skill was Snap Shot. Which is a terrible idea because the 30B has the best turret traverse dispersion of any t10 medium, and likely best in the game, at 0.04. The closest any other t10 medium comes to this is the CS-63 with 0.06 and the Leopard 1 with 0.07. When most have 0.08, 0.10, or 0.12, training Snap Shot on a tank like that is a joke.
(of course thorough recommendations for hundreds of tanks won't be very feasible; I just thought it was kinda funny how silly this one was)
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
