But really, here’s how to remove the annoyance of arty as it currently is in the game and transform it into something useful; a utility role.

  • Add 3 new round types: Flare, Smoke, White Phosphorous (Willie Pete)

  • Remove stun mechanic or lessen duration by 75%

Flare
– Bursts in the air and slowly descends over target area

  • While active, increases view range of nearby allied tanks by 25%, more effective on night maps (coming soon™)

  • Limit 3 flares per game per arty

  • Arty earns 1/3 of XP and credits for damage dealt to enemies spotted because of the additional view range

Smoke
– Basically acts as temporary vegetation for concealment purposes

  • Can still shoot into it and hit targets, but no spotting into or out of smoke

Spotted tanks driving into smoke become unspotted in half the normal time

  • Area and/or duration scales with burst radius/caliber

  • Useful to help conceal retreating allies or counter-batter enemy arty to obscure their vision

  • No XP or credit gain, but helps team sustainment, low credit cost

White Phosphorous
– Bursts in the air over a target

  • White phosphorous rains down and sticks to tanks nearby, slowly damaging them

  • Increased chance to set vehicles on fire

  • Burns vegetation, reducing its concealment value once burnt (burns for 30 seconds, then has camo reduced)

  • Useful for damage-over-time on groups of tanks instead of instant splash damage

  • Can be extinguished by driving into water

  • More effective on lightly armored vehicles (has trouble burning through thick armor)

  • XP and credits earned for damage dealt

  • Can burn typical passive spotting bushes to make gameplay more dynamic

Add new commands and mini-map icons:

  • “Requesting smoke at A5!”

  • “Requesting flare at E1!”

  • “Make it rain at C7!”

These new munitions, along with removing/nerfing stun mechanics, would help transform the most hated class into a useful and fun class that adds new battlefield dynamics for everyone.

Of course the reload, radius, number of rounds allowed, etc. would have to be fine tuned, but it would make the game look and feel more like an actual battlefield and you wouldn’t constantly be stunned or taking tons of splash damage every 30 seconds.
