I was thinking about this for a while and I think it would be fairly healthy to the game.
There is a huge diversity in the game already with all the vehicles in the game. Inside certain classes there are huge differences between vehicle features which make huge differences of balancing teams in each game. I think new classes should be introduced to balance out certain features and here is my idea of how it should be done.
Heavy tanks:
A new class should be introduced for superheavy tanks based on their features. I think a team in tiers 8-10 has a higher chance of victory with for example an IS-7 or an Obj. 277 on their team than the other with a Maus or an E100 and its not down due to the Maus or the E100 being that underpowered but becouse a flank hard pushed with said russian heavy which can keep up and support a wolf pack of mediums and they have good enough armour to break trough the defenses too. Meanwhile those superheavies didn't even have the time to move 50ms from the base becouse they are just far too slow for that. Also they are being pressured to seek cover in a town becouse they are much more vulnerable to artillery fire. And for direct comparison the russian heavies will outperform the german supers becouse their advantages.
TDs:
They should also be differenciated into two classes: Assault guns and tank destroyers upon the fact to them having turrets or not. Its due to the difference it makes in equipment. A tank destroyer doesn't have to turn the hull to aim which deactivates periscopes and camo nets putting the assault guns into a disadvantage. A turreted TD will always be less likely to get spotted becouse they will retain higher view range and better camo while aiming with the turret only than the assault gun having to turn. If they take up a defensive position and multiple shots coming in from inside their view range the turreted td will spot more targets for their teams if they fire back then retreat due to them not having to disable their periscopes to aim the first shot.
Lights:
Pretty simple but mostly true under t10. Wheelies need to get really close to passive scout, tracked lights don't. Wheelies are faster and have better camo and gun handling than any tracked lights. Also you can immobilise a tracked light even if you don't deal damage while you can only slow down a wheelie and they are still able to jump into cover. Light tanks and Armoured Reconnasaince Vehicles should be differentiated. But even in tier 10. If the best possible disatvantegeous matchup is a T-100 in one team and an EBR in the other. But since the EBR is able to reach max view range it has much more advantages than the T-100 and its the best possible scenario. Imagine that matchup with a RHM, Sheridan, AMX, or a WZ. Those things have no chance.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
