There are a lot of things that can be said about the TS-54, ranging from it's stats, to it probably being drawn up by wargaming on a piece of toilet paper.
I however want to question the "why" of this tank.
I personally think the double barrel feature is a pretty funny/wacky idea, double shots go brrrr.
However, i wonder how they came up with the idea that the game needs an american double barrel tank, and maybe even a whole line, considering that we just got the Yoh line.
The point i am trying to make however is that, there are other tanks that the community has been begging wg to add since, what feels like, the dawn of time. Specially tank lines that exist in Blitz or console. Yes they are completely different games at this point, but adding tanks that exist in either game could at least save some time for them.
Why is it that the whole of the japanese tech tree has been abandoned for so long? Japanese TDs exist already in other itterations and have been teased for so long, so why not add them?
Why aren't they adding the Sturmtiger line? It probably would be a useless just for fun(or pain) line but people wanted the Sturmtiger for so long already.
There are also requests for a (balanced) chieftain line! I myself would advocate for wheeled tds or meds, with unusable gun stats when moving or after firing so they are more for quickly changing flanks if needed and to give them at least some drawbacks.
I mean, i get it that they want to get tier VIII premium tanks and their lines into the game, where they know that people will play and pay for like crazy. But i am certain that there are a lot of people that would love these long requested lines, and if they get a decent premium to boot then they still make more money off of it. Heck, we don't even have a tier VIII premium for the japanese heavies!
TLDR: It's weird how WG adds random lines and ignores ever lasting requests for lines that are already available in Blitz or Console.
Now to why wot feels kind of stuck to me, and yes i will mention Warthunder a lot for comparrison.
I don't think that wot should go all in on combined ground and air combat. As wot stands, it has a very solid arcadey gameplay.
Wot feels stuck for me because while they are scraching on cold war era tanks, it just feels like that this is the most we are going to get from them. Yes console has a full on cold war mode now, but as mentioned above, it doesn't mean anything for pc.
Looking over to Warthunder, they already went beyond the cold war and they are implementing real modern tanks and afvs. I really dislike they way that you can die with a single shot in wt, but it feels like the game is going somewhere. When they added the japanese Type 10, i only really understood how far behind wot is with it's tanks.
I don't know what holds wg back from dabbling more with cold war tanks or modern tanks. Heck they could make 5 more tiers from those tanks if they wanted to, they could only face each other to balance it out somewhat. They probably would need larger maps, even though we could still be facing off on mines in Leopard 2A7s and wg wouldn't see anything wrong with that.
TLDR: The game doesn't evolve past earlier cold war era tanks and comparing it to warthunder, i doubt we will ever get to modern tanks.
Sure, tier VIII premiums are the thing that WG can milk the most money from. Be it a BBQ, a 703 II, EBR or whatever. But that is what this game only purpose has become, dabbling around in tier VIII premium tanks and that's it.
