I've been playing WoT for about 2 months and a lot of experienced players who's been playing since 2010 have been telling me that HE shells are really good for disabling internal modules and tracking opponents. However I noticed that the HE shells does NOT do splash damage at all, which lead me to the HE rework patch notes.
It is indicated that HE shells no longer technically "explode" upon impact anymore and the chance of doing damage to modules and crews are decreased. So with all those questions in my head, I did some test with my friends in custom games.
We were using the VK 28.01 with 105 gun and the new WZ-114, HE shells only. The weird thing we found is, even with penetrating shots, the HE shells did NOT show any advantages on damaging modules or crews. Even with explosion radius of 2.78 m on WZ-114's 130 mm gun, three consecutive shots simply could NOT crit most of the time.
Could anyone kindly explain what the new HE shell (after patch 1.13) is good for?
What's the chance of damaging modules or knock out crew with penetrating shots in the current game build? What I think is that even if the chance is low, if the shell blast area inside of the tank is large enough to cover several modules and crews, the chance of damaging at least one module/crew should not be low, correct?
Is there any point to go for those UK vehicles with HESH round?
