I recently started a new game, limiting myself to no portals, and while I've enjoyed building it just felt…sort of regular. I've played through with no map and a heavily modded run – I wanted to try something with a medium to high challenge level, but still staying as close to theme as possible. With that inspiration, I've made up a set of rules to punish myself, but with a little light at the end of tunnel. Introducing Voyager:
Voyager is a specific set of rules in 'Nomad' variety. Voyagers are nomadic until they find land for a homestead. The intent is to increase the challenge and immersion of the game while respecting the themes of vanilla Valheim. This is purely self-enforced, of course, so it's all variable based on what you think is fun.
Valheim is a harsh land, and magic must be earned and channeled. You cannot build portals until the Forsaken are put to rest.
Voyagers are nomads prior to settling a Homestead, taking Journeys from Camp to Camp.
When on a Journey between camps, Voyagers pack all their belongings and everything they will use to establish a new camp.
Voyagers can Journey on foot, with a cart, or on ship.
At the end of the Journey, Voyagers establish a Camp using only the supplies they brought to the site. After establishing a Camp, Voyagers will not build any additional structures, with a few exceptions.
You can build any number of campfires, roundpole fences, stakewalls, Dvergr stakewalls, sharp stakes, Dvergr sharp stakes, traps, ballistas, and wards.
You can build any number of cooking stations and work benches.
Voyagers can only establish one Homestead. Homesteads must be fully located in the Plains biome.
There are no building restrictions at Homesteads, excepting rule 0.
