Sailing is the one area in Valheim which I feel is somewhat downgraded when playing in co-op. That of course being that your comrades have absolutely nothing to do while the person in charge does the sailing.
I've thought of a few roles that could be added to sailing that would improve the co-op experience. The aim was to avoid completely changing the sailing mechanic or hindering the single player experience.
Would love to hear what you all think.
Spotter
While holding fast at the prow of the ship, the player is able to see into the water more easily. In other words, it becomes more transparent for that player.
The idea behind this role is for the player to actively be able to spot rocks and help with navigation.

– Whatever the next ship upgrade will be
Lookout
For any ship with a crow's nest, a player holding fast is able to see further on both the map and land drawing distance.
The idea behind this role is for the player to be able to assist with finding land, whether it's the intended destination or an upcoming island to begin navigating around.

Rowing
The most obvious and frequently suggested role. Players who are sitting down can assist by rowing which will speed up movement when the sail is down.
Additionally, like when sailing cross-wind, the playing rowing will push (or turn) the boat away from the side they are on. This can be compensated for by either the player who is sailing or by having another player begin rowing on the opposite side.
Finally, this role will likely consume stamina and also require the use of an oar (probably crafted from fine wood).
