As some of you may know, I created an extensive tarkov guide and last updated it a few months ago.
One of the primary reasons I haven't updated the guide as much is that the way I hosted the guide (google documents) is difficult to maintain given all of the multimedia provided within the guide. A lot of media, from videos to pictures to other source documents are already provided and I acquired even more – however as Tarkov grows and updates, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain large guides like this. Because of this, I have decided to change the format of my guide that's due for an update.
With the new wipe, I am looking to create and host a new website as well as update the content of the guide to be more universal and user friendly. I don't have a current ETA for the release of the new version but it will include a mobile app so individuals who don't have second monitors can reference the information without having to resort to the awful fandom (for the wiki) app.
The new website will include:
Login profile for each person to create and track their Tarkov Journey. Keep track of quests completed, items found, including Kappa items.
In-depth advice for veterans on how to best complete individual tasks, both from my personal experience, extensive research, as well as community-driven feedback in addition to consulting relevant experts.
Have user-friendly sections dedicated towards guiding new players within their first wipe: this will include best starter items to work with, useful barter items to keep an eye out for, basic mechanic information and a quick summary of changes from current patch to make it very easy to consume for new players, rather than overwhelming them with
Support for user contributions for tips and tricks, voted upon by the community.
These are all ideas of mine that I am committed to completing. That being said, I don't have much experience as a web developer. I am not asking for that from any of you. I am going through various resources to teach myself those skills and this will be my first major project. This includes web front and back end as well as app development.
This can be anything from keybindings, loot suggestions, anything really as long as it's beneficial towards new players.
Again, this can be anything that confuses you. Weapon systems, health systems, pathing, loot quality, anything really.
I'll start:
For new players, I'd recommend changing key bindings to prevent forming bad habits.
I'd rebind "show extracts and timer" to be a single press of "O."
In addition, I'd also recommend that for quicker looting, they rebind discard to CTRL + Right Click. This is because CTRL + Left Click adds it to an empty inventory space, ALT + Left Click equips to an empty slot, and CTRL + Right Click feels intuitive to dropping for me. Getting adept at using hotkeys makes newbies loot a lot faster, which is when you are most vulnerable.
As a new player the biggest confusion I probably had was ammo type, what ammo was and wasn't good for what situation. With loads of new ammo, this is sure to be an increasingly big issue for brand new players. Fortunately, nowadays players can use the ammo chart provided by the Wiki to figure out what ammo is and isn't good.
Anyway, thanks for reading my long post. Happy Wipe everybody!
