Hey guys,
I've been out of Tarkov for a while like many of you. Mostly waiting for a new wipe since there isn't much to do for me personally. However, I love to share my experience with the community and engaging is just a lot of fun. So, to help many fellow community members I am today sharing you part two of my series on how to defend extracts!
Some much needed feedback from my last thread (thanks again everyone, I had a blast reading it and I am confident we are making the game better, together!)

My last thread can be found here: Extract defending like pro: Shoreline : EscapefromTarkov (reddit.com)
Intro:
As an extract defender, you are playing one of the most difficult but challenging gamestyles that Tarkov has to offer.
– Sometimes you will not find anyone for a longer period of time. Making it difficult to focus.
– You're meeting people that likely wiped a whole lobby and are good at shooting head eyes.
– There is a small frame to kill your opponents before they succesfully extract.
This guide covers most of the spots you can use to succesfully defend an extract. Some spots that require two men (boosts), are not covered but will be shared later.
All in all, it's a challenging but worthy way of playing the game.
From my experience, a small group labels this as 'extract camping' or 'unethical'. This is of course not true. Why would dying near an extract be any difficult than dying at the Resort?
Anyways, that's the introduction and definition of the style. Now let's move on to succesfully defending Customs. The second map in this series. After gathering some feedback, I have decided to add a couple of extra sports in this guide. They do not specifically cover an extract, but are less known defending spots nonetheless.
Customs is a great and very popular map. Many people say it's a map for beginners. Partly true since some of the earliest quests start there, but there is also plenty of high tier PvP on the map. Your task is once again to defend anyone from extracting, at all costs.
All spots on the map are marked. Note: you will need to zoom in a bit to see where all the markers are.
I will update this guide with feedback gathered from the community and other experts.
– Trailerpark
This extract is located in the bottom left of the map. Not an incredibly popular extract anymore since RUAF Roadblock is always open, but worth to defend nonetheless. Especially when an airdrop lands around Big Red!
[1] Is one of the bushes near the extract. They provide great cover and people never ever check there for potential defenders. Use this to your advantage.
[2] Is the cabin overlooking the Trailerpark extract. You will need a key to unlock the cabin, but the cabin nearby can also be used. It is worth purchasing the key though, since there are 3 jackets inside. Did you know looting jackets grant you the highest chance on finding other, rare keys? From here on, you can perfectly fire your enemies in the back and so securing that extract.
– RUAF Roadblock
One of the more popular extracts to use. You can expect squads to use this. Unlocking a potential of a lot of free loot, and of course the most important thing: securing the extract from intruders.
[3] Is on the roof of the garage. You'll need high strength or some buddy to boost you upon there. You have excellent vision on the extract once you are on there though!
[4] The bush near body, the static body spawn that provides a quest-key, is a great place to sit in. I have surprised so many people in this spot. It never gets old. Keep some grenades around to quickly ambush squads.
– Dorms V-EX
– The – extract to use when you go shoot up dorms. If it's up, it's worth to wait around. People extracting here usually carry valuable items from the marked room and may even have killed the boss and all kinds of PMCs.
[5] Are the bushes near the extract. It doesn't provide great sight, so spamming grenades while trying to get a peek is advised. This works relatively well!
Note: scavs roam around this extract a lot. Kill them swiftly, you may even use the bodies as bait for PMCs that are low level.
– Old Gas Station
A personal favorite. I just like the ambience of this extract, and there are two excellent spots that make you hide in plain sight. Note, this extract is only available for you if the green smoke is up.
[6] Is all in the back right corner. You'll have good vision on those coming from the storage building. Use a longer range scope to quickly shoot down your opponents, securing the extract once again.
[7] Is right outside of the blue fence, underneath the tree. You will have vision on those trying to enter the space behind the gas station. People never, ever check your spot here. It's basically free real estate, just that they are the real estate and you're putting a bullet into their face.
– ZB-1011
One of the extracts you're going to have to use if you spawned on the left side of the map.
[8] Is near the railway. Another much overlooked spot which you can use to your advantage. Both people coming from the smokestack / rails and people coming from the Admin gate will walk right into your crosshair from here.
Additional, points of interest to defend:
– The green screen room.
There is a small bathroom with one open toilet in there. Stand on the toilet, jump to your left. You're now sitting in a closed toilet. You can perfectly ambush those that are trying to loot the jacket that's inside this room.
– The room with all the crates in the fortress
Not sure there's a good callout for this room, but I think everyone knows which room I am talking about. In this room, you can jump on the scale from the big crate on the ground. From the scale, you can jump onto the lockers. From the lockers you go to the lockers that are in the right corner. From here, you can ambush everyone coming inside the room.
Q&A:
Q: What's the difference between extract defending and extract camping?
A: Extract defending is ethical and requires the defender to be one of the most skilled players the Tarkov community has to offer.
Q: Will you cover other maps as well?
A: I try to cover all maps in this series.
Q: You missed [insert spot].
A: I sometimes do not add spots when I think they're ineffective. But feel free to comment them and I will update the guide if I think they're a good addition. Note I do not add spots that require two man boosts, for now.
Q: But now everyone will know where to look out for?
A: I believe only a small portion of the playerbase will receive this information and will actually keep it in mind. Even the most well known spots (Emercon) are still unchecked by almost everyone. Lastly I absolutely believe in information-sharing.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
