I like the idea of having tamed wolves, but their current balance leaves a lot to be desired. They breed like flies, they blindly pursue enemies even if they’re taking fire or poison damage, and they quickly get outmatched later in game by raids of increasing difficulty. I would like to see some changes to wolves to make them more useful. Here are some proposed changes.
There should be various types of equipment, such as collars, that provide buffs to domesticated wolves. These collars could be made of various metals of escalating quality so that wolves’ equipment could level with their master’s equipment.
There should be a way to increase a wolf’s star level other than trapping and domesticating them from the mountains. I’ve spent hours and hours trying to domesticate two star wolves. At the level where two star wolves are useful for home defense they can easily kill players in only a few hits. They also spawn rarely. To make tougher wolves more accessible to players perhaps there’s a mead or potion we can brew to increase a wolf’s star level.
But I think the most important change to wolves would be to let me, uh, fix them. Yes. Let players neuter their wolves. I mean, I already have the butcher’s knife. Neutering wolves would allow players to have groups of them together protecting the player without them constantly breeding.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
