Idea for the Devs regarding death and experience lose

A lot of people on this sub don’t like how much experience you lose when you die and I thought of something. Someone has probably suggested it before but the character could have an overall level progress with an experience bar that gets hard to fill like tons of other RPGs. Then once the player has hit a level they can bank that experience into the skills like how they work now or even go with peak trees for the skills such as less stamina use or more damage. If you die then only the experience of the level you’re on gets reset but you dont lose any progress in your skills directly, just experience. I have very little knowledge of coding so I don’t know how hard it would be to change the leveling system but I think this could be a good middle ground for still having a punishment for death but without making the player weaker, and the game way harder, if you get caught in a repeating death trap.
