[Idea] Road & logistics overhaul

Don't you feel that roads are kinda pointless at the moment? That carts aren't being used to their fullest potential? That there could be more to life than portals and using carts as a skateboard while being over encumbered? Is there a quiet voice in your head, that says: "portals kinda kill the exploration aspect of the game"?

There were many great ideas posted in this subreddit for how roads and transportation could generally change.

I borrowed some of these ideas and combined them with my own to create simple, but useful overhaul, that should make creating roads an interesting goal for players.

https://preview.redd.it/2227u8cjkvta1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=312432a26a5fafae317b1b430f0e0368266bc53d

Why?

  1. there's no point in exploring that much, because you can just (assuming you don't use on-line maps that reveal everything) scout the places you need to visit with boss stones and then just place the portal there, which basically encourages you to cut the corners. Unless, like me, you like exploring.
  2. You can't use portals to move ores from one place to another, and even if you create a road from mine to your base, it's still a huge pain in the A, to move all that stuff around.
  3. As for now roads/paths are nothing but a cosmetic thing, which is a shame.

What can be changed or improved?

Many of you have already said: paths should reward player for building and using them.

In my opinion, depending on the type of the path, there should be few bonuses, that player gets:

  • Regular path: +5% to movement speed (even with carts), -30% of stamina consumption while running on the road.
  • Paved path: +7,5% to movement speed, -50% of stamina consumption while running on the road, pulling carts is now easier – they don't slip from slopes as easily, you can pull more weight up the slope.

Road markers on the map and minimap.

Roads could be marked on the map, so during transport you would always use the quickest and most comfortable way to the destination. To avoid the clutter, you should be able to mark the start point of the road and the end point with your hoe (or a hammer).

I'd love to know what you think and learn some other ideas too.
