An oft requested feature or addition to the game is some sort of tough, mini-boss level enemy to the Meadows biome. The most suggested enemy is some kind of bear, a relatively mundane but still dangerous creature. Many others counter that this wouldn’t be healthy for new players, suggesting that it would feel bad to run into such a dangerous enemy while still learning how to play.
So I had an idea for a sort of scaling, “opt-in” mechanic. A dew Bear Dens, similar to Troll Caves, could be spawned throughout the more hilly, rocky areas of the Meadows. The first time a player finds one, our good old tutorial bird appears and suggests that perhaps you should return here when you feel braver, but if you must venture in, they suggest stealth and speed.
Inside is a sleeping bear. Nearby would be piles of rotting meat, animal bodies, and other debris. These could be looted for a generous amount of early game food items and crafting materials, but if you stay here too long or loot too many, you had better be ready for a tough fight or to run for your life!
Much later on, defeating Moder will release winter’s hold on the land. The bears will wake up and begin roaming the Meadows, ravenous and mean (With increased stats). Bears should drop several items native to the Meadow, in addition to the materials for a powerful new tier 1-2 armor set. The trophies or other parts could be combined with latter metals for cool and thematic new weapons, similar to the Stagbreaker.
These are just some musings, as to how the devs could implement something many people have asked for without disrupting game balance. I love this game and I think IG is doing a great job, I just really like enemy diversity in my open world games.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
