My hope for the future of the game

I think of Valheim as a very hardcore experience that rewards you with some of the most dreamy landscapes and views in games. ever.

The problem now is that if you've played the game you will fall into these 2 categories:

  • Your world seed was amazing, biomes were big, main island was massive, your first 2 bosses were a decent amount away from you.
  • Your world seed had a small starting island, your elder was 10 miles away, your plains biome was on the other side of the world and every other one was literally a slither on the side of a mountain biome and every other biome was a jumble wumble of small patches of nothing.

Now im thankful to be the part of the first group which gave me whole 7 days for 12hours a day most memorable gameplay, basebuilding and exploration i ever experienced. That was a week after release.

Now im waiting for the game to be more polished, more content added etc. but the only thing im worried about is the world.

I think the world gen needs a complete overhaul.

With the recent teases of mistlands biome I realized the potential of how the game can look and feel.

The world should be bigger with biomes that dont end in 1 minute of walking in one direction, therefore the islands should also be bigger so they can fit multiple biomes.
BUT, don't forget that there should also be water inbetween those islands.

My first playthrough had a very interesting generation: it was possible to walk over a bunch of minature islands that were divided by small rocks and knee deep water levels with sometimes having to swim with a full belly to make it without taking damage from drowning. About half way i realized there was a completely different biome on the other side of this.

Now, that experience is very annoying because if you die on the other side you have to get enough food to get back there because otherwise you will drown. Its a very nice thing to have though imo.

โ€‹

you can see on the top what im talking about

Also, notice how this world is so connected, you basically dont need a boat to get to most biomes.
Go ahead and randomize a world and you have like 90% chance to roll a shit world that you just dont want to get into for shit. I dont want to spend 90% of the time on a boat getting to places. I want to walk around and explore amazing places and look at insane views.

Do you know minecraft amplified preset? Something like this should be added as an option, just sayin.

Anyways, notice how my world looks. It has a massive stardting island that has every playable biome as of now. Moder on the other hand is literally on a single small island that has nothing on it except the boss itself.
NOW I dont want to only sound like i hate to just wait on a boat until nothing happens and i hit a rock, I ALSO want to say that MODER shouldn't be EVER isolated from a major island. What is the point of being on the top of the world when all you can see is ocean and some swamps that look like dogshit from afar?
You get what im saying.

Also, why put the boss so far away when the games progression gatekeeps you from actually fighting the boss at a reasonable level. The world doesnt need to be entirely randomly generated, you could put moder in the spawn island and then randomly put some more everywhere else so the world feels great to explore.

Now lets talk about how i imagine the world gen to look like.
Lets say the spawn island (left) is isolated from those other islands by a lot more, but it itself is less connected but STILL able to walk over to those parts, the whole thing is BIGGER to accomodate bigger to allow for more rarer structures to be more interesting and complex, while in between you can explore smaller structures that fill the world and let it be fun to explore on your way to other major structures.

Generate mountains in the middle of major islands and do some magic to get a decent ratio to a normal mountain to moder mountain.

THEN

Make the oceans feel BIG but you dont need to get on the boat so often.
See those tubes i made, thats where you make the ocean BIG. There is also an idea where you have moder mountain island with only 1 surrounding biome that faces the middle of the map.

Also
Moder mountains should have screes generate and mix with the biome below.
Plains birch forest should have more space between the trees so it makes it feel more open and lovely ๐Ÿ™‚
Pine trees should drop the appropriate amount of logs to its height and not how it currently is.
More volumetric clouds and fog and things pls

And if this post dies and nothing happens, i guess i will have to learn how to make mods :)))))))))
anyways
