So I started a new world about a week ago and after I killed Eikthyr, I ran past my night 1 survival shed on the way to the stones. As I did so, the game triggered the forest event, but I couldn't be arsed to defend it so I just kept moving. It hung around inactive for so long that I thought it was blocking other raids from happening until last night, when swamp smell triggered on my farm. I promptly sprung into action by…..activating the Eikthyr buff and running in circles for two minutes until they got bored and left.
It got me thinking, there just doesn't seem to be a reason to actually engage most raids at all. The spawns are kept at maximum for the creatures involved at all times, so killing them doesn't actually help, it only puts you at risk of messing up the combat and dying. Even if you do fight successfully, the only result is your base being littered with easily farmed trash that doesn't despawn. You can't really ignore them completely (moat and hill builders notwithstanding) because they'll break stuff, but there's just no reason to actually jump in there and fight.
My suggestion: make a small part of the raid (say, 20% of them) ignore the players completely unless they've been damaged in the last 6 seconds or so, and instead these guys always focus your buildings. Additionally, greatly extend the raid timer but have a number of spawns that will occur at maximum. IE, the raid can go for as long as 10 minutes but can be ended after killing 20 of the invading creatures. Leaving the area would function as it does now, pausing the raid and respawning everything when you go back.
What do you guys think?
