Hey everyone,
Like a lot of you I also have been experiencing the massive frame drops with Oculus audio enabled. I've been working through a bunch of testing to try and work out a solution other than "turn it off" and I think I've got it nailed down. For me at least. I'm at raid # 15 and my frames are rock solid and Oculus/binaural audio is enabled. For reference and transparency I'll post my specs though I'm fairly certain that has little to do with what I'm seeing.
11900K/3080TI/32GB/4xSSD – Very slight OC nothing crazy.
So the "4xSSD" is the issue. I'd post pictures but I have already done the thing so I'll just describe it.
I noticed that during raid my hard drive transfer rate was PINNED at max transfer rate. I suspect that oculus audio is making calls to the secondary hard drive (F: – m.2) constantly to paint the audio and saturating my PCI rail/bus.
So this leaves me with two options. I can move the m.2 to the other slot which sits in a very awful place and gets notably hotter….Or….I can move EFT on to my C Drive which uses a different x16 rail.
And that's what I did. I am now running EFT on my C Drive and getting 120+ FPS with binaural audio.
tldr: Some of us have EFT on a separate hard drive that shares the same PCIE bus as our graphics cards and now that EFTs new audio is calling on the installation location DURING the raid and not just before it, it's causing frame issues. Solution. Move your installation to another storage location or critically consider the PCIE resources in play and adjust accordingly.
Keep killing – Cheeky Breeki.
