I like the specialization, also like the skill penalty from death when regarding weapons but not so much when regarding blocking and the life skills like, mining, wcutting, swiming and fishing, are reduce as well given how much it takes to level up.
These skills have a unique issue regarding of how common it is to level up these skills naturally compared to weapons skills. There alway something hunting you constantly, but there isn't a constant need to cut trees everytime you go out.
I think the solution is to reduce the total exp need for the life skills and blocking, or make it gain more exp per smack.
Here is some ideas other than increasing more exp per smack(on top of the current rate of exp gain):
Woodcutting:
When a tree gets cut down /cut from stump you get 10 exp immediately for successfully cutting the tree.
Fishing:
10exp when a fish is collected from the line, either by naturally reeling it in or just picked up from the line directly.
Swimming:
5 exp per tick when drowning
Mining:
10exp per chunk broken
Block:
Parry exp should increased to 15(considering how much stamina it takes to parry)
In summary it would be a nice improvement that these skills in general be easier to level up, but the current state of the skills is simple and serviceable.
