Imagine being able to tame (and name) any mob for things like base security during raids or just for plain old companionship! (excluding bosses of course)
In my mind, you would have to slay the boss from that respective biome and upon mounting their trophy to the boss stone, gain the ability to tame any mob from that biome.
New items (or repurposed old items) could be added that attract and "feed" to certain mobs to tame them, the bigger the mob, the more of that particular item you would need and the longer the taming process
I can't think of many downsides, aside from maybe difficulty balancing but tying the ability to slaying that biome's respective boss means that you couldn't beat a boss with an overpowered mob from a tougher biome.
Another possible down side is this could bar taming boars, wolves and lox until their respective biome bosses have been beat
