With the much anticipated arrival of Odyssey Update 11 – the Deep Space Support Array (DSSA) – whose aim is to assist Cmdrs with ship repair, rearm and selling priceless exploration data at fixed Fleet Carrier deployment locations in deep space throughout the galaxy – faces a new challenge of trying to maintain these existing services – while at the same time allowing those Cmdrs who wish to add the newly added Odyssey U11 internal modules / services – a timeframe to return to a FC Admin system to add them.
Herein lies the problem: If we assume the “average” DSSA FC lies 15,000 Ly from a FC Admin system (either the Bubble or Colonia) – they will require 6,000-7,000 tons of Tritium and 10+ hours of non-stop FC jumping for just a one way trip…This amounts to a total of 600 million in Tritium fuel at galactic average price (which doesn’t exist in any useful quantity at that price in Colonia) – and the better part of a full day in real time spent performing the FC jumps to complete the round-trip journey. These numbers represent the cost for just one (1) FC – and dozens of DSSA are expected to refit with the new services. Yes – some DSSA carriers are much closer than 15 kLy to a FC Admin – but for many others – they are much, much farther away.
So in an effort to accommodate the wishes of the diverse DSSA membership who are wanting to refit their FC with the new Odyssey internal services- we will split the refit process into two (2) main phases:
These DSSA owners have had the time/ means / funding to get a backup FC positioned in the deployment system to maintain DSSA services – while the official DSSA is away for refitting (so this means TWICE as much effort: as they need the fuel and time to jump two (2) FCs to accomplish one refit.
These DSSA FC owners who are so prepared with a backup – have already begun – or perhaps even completed their refit trips…Their deployment markers on the DSSA layer of the ED Astrometrics Galaxy Map will remain in usual position – but indicate the carrier callsign of the replacement carrier providing services while the official DSSA is away – and then will be changed back after the refit is complete.
While Phase I Cmdrs may have access themselves- or to squadron mates with fat bank accounts – they are probably the exception. Many DSSA owners make some additional income on UC exploration data sold at their FCs – but otherwise have been paying the weekly upkeep of between 12-25 million credits / week for over past 1.5+ years. Moreover – the early concept for DSSA were to be “permanent” deployments – so many DSSA owners flew their FC to their deployment systems with very little Tritium fuel to spare.
Because the costs (time and credits/Tritium) are prohibitively expensive for so many DSSA Cmdrs to even consider a backup FC as in Phase I – we have decided on the following solution:
A planned, one-month “service upgrade” pause in the DSSA Network galaxy-wide – much like the weekly E:D Server maintenance every Thursday morning. During this ONE TIME “service upgrade” – DSSA Cmdrs wishing to do so – may leave their deployment system WITHOUT a Backup FC providing services
This will allow DSSA Cmdrs to plan only the requirements for a single trip back to FC Admin system and back to deployment
The DSSA U11 Refit Service Upgrade shall run:
Start: April 1, 2022 – 0:00 UTC
End: April 30, 2022 – 23:59 UTC
The DSSA Council will be working collaboratively with the STAR (Strategic Tritium And Rescue) Network – who are already providing Tritium for sale in quantity in FC “Depots” stationed across the galaxy (yes – even Beagle Point) – to assist these DSSA Cmdrs with Tritium / fuel transfer services) to permit and simplify the process…This will hopefully allow for a more “relaxed” timeframe for these remote DSSA FC owners to jumps their FCs to the nearest Refit location – and then return…
While the “Service Upgrade” does not mean that every DSSA will not be in it’s deployed location – but all Cmdrs in deep space should take necessary steps to repair / rearm and sell all their Exploration data at UC before the “Service Upgrade” period begins….Naturally the existing rescue teams from the Fuel Rats and Hull Seals will be at the ready to step in – as usual – during any emergencies when a DSSA might otherwise have sufficed.
We regret any inconveniences this may cause – but feel that given the existence of Odyssey itself was unknown at the time FCs were released in June 2020 – this service upgrade period is actually the “least disruptive” / most time efficient solution – when you consider that if 50 DSSA make this journey- it will run into billions of Tritium / 100s to even 1000+ hours spent jumping the FCs.
If you are a DSSA FC owner yourself – please visit the ‘carrier-command’ channel on Fleetcomm to get all the details…Or if you just have a large(r) cargo ship and/or a Fleet Carrier yourself would like to lend your cargo hold to the Tritium hauling effort – please contact the STAR Team on the FCOC (Fleet Carrier Owners Club) Discord – who will be coordinating the delivery of Tritium loads to the DSSA refitting and the outlying STAR depots. There will also be DSSA Refueling tasks in the Bubble.
