As per usual I see new commanders wondering how to make money fast. I created optimized routes that start near the starter systems, take you out in a series of short hops (good for lower-end ship jump ranges), are guaranteed to have at least one earth within 2,000 ls of the entry star to surface scan, and dump you back near where you started. There are eight sector routes. Doing about three will get you to Elite in exploration fast. The routes are HERE.
You can scan other valuable targets in each system too but it will slow you down. I did this so you spend less time in supercruise, more time jumping. It is a good way to see the Bubble as well.
