Full disclosure, this is based purely on my own experience.
But for the past few months, I've been unable to find G4 materials. At all. They just wouldn't spawn. For example, when I would land at a Brain Tree site, this is all I would see: https://i.imgur.com/o5L6LGF.png .
Today I got fed up with it, and ran the gamut. I verified my file integrity, I checked on Canonn, I googled like mad, and finally, in a fit of slightly mad rage, I tried randomly changing my graphics settings.

I already collected the G4 mats(in a fit of ebullient joy), but I'm getting all types of biologicals again!
They key seems to be Checkerboard Rendering. When I have it off, I only get Polyporous Growths. When I have it on(and then leave the planet entirely and reland), I get everything I'm supposed to be getting. No idea why a rendering option would effect biological spawn rates, but there you go.
Anyway, after all my anger and madness, I hope this helps someone else avoid the same thing.
