While playing Valheim, I'm often reminded of the long past great game of Everquest. Arguably the first and still best MMORPG. Yes, I know of the great Project1999 and EQ fans should look it up. Gaming with consequences is so fun.
Corpse run, the run back into certain danger without any gear and often in the dark. Also super stressful, prone to tears and so rewarding when done right.
Agro and trains, the long trail of monsters chasing you down endlessly until your death or escape with a bit of luck.
Splitting mobs, the act of inching your distance a step at a time towards a group of monsters in the hope of getting one to chase you, to be dispatched easily or train, see above.
Lost experience at death, the most important reason to not die.
Zone progression and tireless equipment grind to ready for the boss fights. Not unique to the two games I know but still.
What other games does Valheim remind you of?
