Hey commanders,
Lately my HOTAS has been gathering dust because it takes so much space on my desk and I haven't gotten around to place some mounts on my chair and whatnot, and I've been experimenting with a PS5 controller to play…and wow, what a difference! I mean, it's way more comfortable, way more intuitive and having every combo and option so tightly setup is so amazing.
Using a HOTAS adds a really "cool factor" when playing Elite, that's for sure, but man…it's so uncomfortable and clunky. With my PS5 controller I have:
-A touchpad. This touchpad is a godsend. You can divide it and use for example the left side for quick power management or set up some macros to do it, and the right side for mouse movement(pitch and yaw) for more precise aiming.
-Gyro. Gyro is also amazing, so many possibilities. Currently I'm using it for yaw movement, to be able to yaw and use lateral/vertical or whatever trust I need at the same time.
-You can setup an insane amount of combos. I've got everything I need plus some quick throttle options for 0%, 50%, -50%, 75%, etc.
I know I'm not going to be an ace pilot with this setup, but it is so comfortable to play, what are your experiences with different control setups? I'm not trying to start a war here, I'm just sharing my latest "discoveries".
