Hey,
So, DMZ came out today and I managed to play some games. I know a lot of you are probably interested on IW's take on Extraction Shooter, so here are some key differences and similarities:
– Yes, It's an extraction shooter. You spawn randomly on the same map that's used for Warzone 2, which is big. You get your magic tablet which shows you every point of interest and extraction points.- Your main progression is through quests. You have 3 dfferent factions available (though 2 of them do need to be unlocked first) from which you can get different quests like "Kill stuff with x", "Extract with xyz item". I've unlocked tier 2 and 1 for both first factions and It seems the mission variety is okay.- Here's what I really like: You can set up one of your "insured" weapons with whatever attachments you like. If you die in a raid with it, then given insured slot goes on 2h cooldown. You can reduce it by significant amounts just by extracting with items that are worth sum monies. You can also have your "contraband" weapons, which are premade weapons You cannot change their attachments and if you die with one, you just lose it forever.- Speaking of monies and looting in general. You have your backpack that has 5 slots (or more if you find upgraded backpack at raid). You go around map and find valuable stuff along with your standard nades, guns, etc. What's cool here is that the game straight up tells you which item has what value, so you no longer need to remember what's better to extract with.
– Sadly there's no crafting whatsoever, I have no idea why they introduced it in single player if they're not gonna use it in any multiplayer mode.
– AI is either fucking blind or owns you like you killed it's firstborn. You can run around without them noticing, but when the fight actually starts, you need to stay at the top of your game, because it's pretty easy to die, especially if you only have 1 armor plate. At least the AI doesn't aggro on you if you're aiming at them from a distance, so that's better for sure.
– HP is autoregenerating, you also have armor plates and different armor tiers which can have up to 3 plated equipped at once. It's the same system that was introduced in Warzone and so far I like it in DMZ. You can even self revive now if you've found the right item during the raid.
Is pretty much casual extraction shooter experience like everybody expected. I really like how there's no gear fear from the start – you don't care if you lose stuff you collected, it's nothing more than extra experience. You can always play your op fav gun every two hours or so, so no additional stresses on this side as well.
