Some of my fondest AX memories are introducing new people to AX combat via multicrew fighters.
Functionally fighters are abyssmal, making it harder to flak a swarm, the NPCs are useless in AX, and networking makes it sketchy at best. The class 5 or 6 slot could be taken up by shield cell banks or hull reinforcements. The shields and hull are flipped for ships designed for AX combat, 10 hull vs phasing damage, the goids don't even need to bring down the shields to blow up a fighter.
But none of that matters.
Because some new player wondered what multicrew was, saw a "+" next to Xeno Hunting, and had the time of their life looking at a space death flower and dodging the swarm, blowing off chunks before flying headfirst into a caustic cloud and instantly dying.
And I get to facilitate that joy, and that makes me feel good, and grows the community.
