I've playing unranked forever now with my 5-stack and it's been a blast, sometimes we stomp, sometimes we get amazing games, but rarely bad games. This, only with 5 players on the party, cuz if it is 4 the random ruins it 50% of the time.
Today we were in a five stack and we were playing bonkers. Lost 2 lanes and turned the midgame to our advantage. It was clearly in our favor about 25min in but it was not impossible for then to comeback as well, mainly considering we are low rank and throw games all the time, (thats also fun, because we can see where are doing badly and improve). But tonight we had not only our fun ripped away from us, we had a really big disapointment about the fights we could've lost. One of the most amazing things i've experience in dota is that excitement we get when we have the last fights; the other team knowing it is their last chance of turning the game around, the anxiety around the rosh pit, the smokes, the desperation in late game pick offs. Tonight we got none of that. The opposing team typed gg at 30 min.
I think the idea of it is not bad, having a way of ending awfully stomped games is nice and i might use someday myself. But not every game is a certain loss that you should be able to bail out of it just like that.
I could see its use in ranked tho. I really wouldn't mind winning like that in ranked, because it's free, fast mmr. Unranked on the other hand, i got nothing by winning like that, mainly considering it was the last game of the day. We worked our asses for the performance we had that match and we got none of that excitement at the end of it, it was like a loss.
I can go on about how forfeit doesn't fit in dota, (it could buff some early game heroes) but it could be a really good feature in ranked. or not, let's discuss.
It's good experimenting, but my take is that forfeit does not fit in with the dota experience.
