Issue: Playing Valheim and getting super low FPS. Typically 10-15 FPS and at times down to 1-5 when near lots of objects (trees, buildings, etc).
Current Rig:
CPU: i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz (No overclock)
Motherboard: MSI Z170A M7
RAM: 2x8GB DDR4-2800
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super
Power Supply: 700 Watt Standard 80+ Bronze
Issue persists despite these actions:
• All GPU Driver's recently updated. No change
• Windows 10 updated. No change.
• Playing alone or with people: No change.
• Utilizing Vulkan or not: No change.
• Resolution: 1920×1080 60hz. No change when switching to any other option.
• All graphics settings sliders High to Low: No change in FPS.
• All graphics settings radial buttons On or Off. Slight noticeable change but very minor. (Stays at 15 FPS more often when alone in field)
• Disabled Windows 10 Game Mode: No change.
• Edited boot.config file with gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1 & gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1: No change.
• Set launch options as -window-mode exclusive: No change.
• Running program as administrator: No change.
• Gave Valheim High Priority: No change.
• Enabled High Performance Plan: No change.
Also, while trying to figure out what the problem was I ran UserBenchMark. Everytime it gets to the end of the check, my PC restarts immediately. It won't get to the 3D rendering portion. Attempted it twice and each time the PC restarted.
I then tried using Heaven Benchmark 4.0 and everything seems to go smoothly. No restart at least.
When running tests over DirectX11: Min FPS: 5.8, Max FPS: 103.4, Avg FPS: 55.7.
When running tests over OpenGL: Min FPS: 6.7, Max FPS: 106.5, Avg FPS: 58.0
I used MSI Afterburner Hardware Monitor to track my usage while running the tests. I saw CPU usage spike between 65%-85% while GPU maintained at 30%-40%. All temps stayed pretty low overall.
I then used the same Hardware Monitor in-game. At the start screen GPU usage was steady at around 40%. CPU usage spiked between 25%-60%. In world and playing GPU usage bounces from 15% to 40% while CPU usage was 20%-60% with one major spike to 90%. Temperatures for everything remained low and stable.
In all tests and game runs RAM maintained pretty low and stable.
So now as you see I've totally ran out of options and ideas. I love the game but cannot figure out why in the world it runs so poorly. I see others talking about getting 100 FPS but I'm over here even begging for 30.
Does anyone out there have any other ideas or clues as to what's going on here? I don't know where else to turn to.. If this isn't the right place for it can someone direct me where to post this?
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
