MIP streaming. let’s talk about it.

I'm relatively new to computers so please excuse any ignorance.

I got a new monitor which prompted me to start playing with my settings. (Went from 1080 to1440) I run out of vram without MIP on and the game is choppy/dropping frames (i know i can play with textures and other settings but im trying not to sacrafice too much eye candy). Turn on MIP and my vram usage dropped to 40-50% but not a big increase in fps. I slowly lowered the buffer size for MIP and monitored my vram usage. It seems at the medium to lowest setting my gpu is loving it. Takes just enough load off that I have a decent buffer zone should usage increase but also I'm not seeing the big drop in fps due to the cpu having to do extra rendering.

Is my logic sound? Am I just shooting in the dark and getting lucky? I still want to do more testing across more maps but from the few tests I've done this morning results looked pretty promising.

I've read other people saying it crashes their game or runs worse with it on. Just curious if they've done more testing or just turned it on and cranked it up and sent it.
