So after trying everything Elite has to offer, I REALLY think piracy is it's weakest feature. Smuggling is just freight with police intervention from time to time, which is fine, but ship to ship piracy, something that should be pretty epic, is just plain frustrating due to the physics and mechanics of the game.
My suggestion is they should add one of 3 things:
retro thrust limpets: very very fast limpets that can decelerate a target ship. Could have limited pvp use as well, however they would need to add a mechanism to be able to destroy them when they attach to your Hull (ecm maybe?)
- a grapple line – a dedicated piracy module that allows you to shoot a line into an enemy ship to use your own thrusters to decelerate and tail them.
And the most hopeful/unlikely option, but one that would add some serious flair to Odyssey:
- ship to ship boarding. Obviously this would be technically very difficult, and would have to be preceded by the long requested ship interiors, but still, it would be amazing being able to board enemy ships to either take hostages or clear them out on illegal and covert operations.
Just my two cents, but it's something I've always wanted to be able to do in a space sim.
