The Second Thargoid War, in a rough analogy

This is the story of two neighbors, Manny and Thurgood.

Thurgood has lived in the neighborhood his whole life and loves gardening with his wife. However, they’re very protective oft their property and especially their garden. Thurgood comes off as mean and aggressive, but that is part of his culture

Then, a new neighbor moves in: Manny. Manny and Thurgood speak different languages and follow different customs. Manny doesn’t like Thurgood, always thinking he’s trying to pick a fight.

One day, Manny catches sight of Thurgood’s garden as Thurgood and his family leave for vacation. Manny had never seen such ripe, exotic fruit before. So, after Thurgood was long gone, Manny began raiding the garden. He tried one and it suddenly made him feel strong and youthful.

Over the next three months, Manny would return every day to see new fruit grown in its place, with no care needed. He showed the rest of the neighborhood, who all fell in love with the fruit. They began to rely on it for its properties…until Thurgood finally came home. Thurgood, angry at the sight of his precious garden being raided, threw Manny out and brandished a weapon, speaking in a gibberish. It was a warning.

But Manny, determined for more fruit, did not heed Thurgood’s warning and continued to pillage the garden whenever an opportunity presented itself. Manny got caught on occasion, thrown out with the same warning every time. But nothing more.

Then one day, Thurgood catches another neighbor with one of his fruit. He shoots the neighbor for all to see.
That night, Manny had figured out a solution to the garden problem:

murder Thurgood and his family.

But Thurgood expected this. Not long after Manny break into their house, he’s thrown out. Only this time, tied up and there were people waiting for Manny: Thurgood’s extended family. They beat Manny down, who claims to have done nothing wrong.

After the beating, Manny doubles down. He wants that fruit and he’ll raze hell to get it. Manny rallies the rest of the neighborhood while Thurgood’s family prepares themselves.

The two side engage in an all out brawl.
Over fruit.
One side defending what is theirs.
The other side hellbent on taking what they believe should be theirs.
