Made a new Collusion deck. Spent some time playtesting it. Tweaked it. Test drove some more. Now I just spent a ton of time in the deckbuilder agonizing over how to fit both Firesworns and Salamandras into the new list after heavily revising the 4p/5p lineup to make space for other shit, and in the end, I ended up deciding to bite the bullet and just include Mutant Makers in the list to cover both tags and pray that I have The Flying Redanian out when Mutant Makers hits the floor. If not, I figured, I’d be pretty much screwed because I’d have to destroy one of my own units, so I knew I’d have to be super extra careful to only put Mutant Makers down after setting up The Flying Redanian and making sure to have at least 7 coins afterwards to res it. It was a risky decision to be sure, but I wanted to know how close it was to being a viable list without further alterations.
Lo and behold, time came to put down Mutant Makers, and… I gained 3 coins. That was it. The game never prompted me to pick one of my own units to die.
Turns out at some point during all the revisions, I had accidentally created a devotion deck without even realizing it. In fact, I’m pretty sure it was a devotion deck from the very beginning and I had just never taken the time to properly realize it because I hadn’t made it that way on purpose at all. Huh. Who knew.
As far as I can tell, this is basically the equivalent to begrudgingly including Golden Nekker in your deck even though you know it won’t work, but you just need a 9 provision spell in that slot to make a bunch of other cards work even if the spell itself doesn’t make any sense in the context of the deck itself, gritting your teeth and begrudgingly playing it mid-match after drawing into it and having no other option, then being shocked to see it actually work and only just then realizing that your deck actually fit the requirements the whole time and you just forgot to include 10+ provision cards when making it.
Anyone got any similar stories?
