Gun caliber/damage correlation in WoT

So this may be a bit of a weird post, but I always thought the way damage is balanced in WoT is rather interesting, because it can be both very consistent, and at the same time extremely inconsistent.

For example let's look at guns around 150mm in caliber (15cm, 152mm, 155mm) many of these guns share the same damage number, 750. This is consistent across tanks from different nations, with different classifications, and different tiers. E100, object 268, T95, rhm borsig, su 152 (…) All share the same damage, despite being entirely different tanks, and at different tiers, with the only thing connecting them being the gun caliber. But at the same time, there are some odd balls in the shape of the obj 705A, obj 268v4, and the upcoming bz 75, that for no reason other than balancing have 650 damage. There's also the Kv-2 with 700 damage but I think that one can be excused for being a much lower tier.

Then there's the other side of the spectrum we have the 105mm guns, which seem to have almost no rhyme or reason to their damage numbers. For example we can look at thanks which are supposedly armed with the same gun, the L7A1, which is used on the centurion ax, M48 patton, 121B, leopard 1 and stb-1 (…). You would think these tanks will have the same damage numbers, but no, because for some reason the stb does only 360 damage, and the leo does 420. Things get even weirder when we look at tanks at tier 8, where a 105 mm gun can deal anything from 360 (borat, iron arnie, ambt) through 320 (cs 52 lis, obj 274A) and as little as 300 on the Kv-5 (granted it's a 107, but I gave the 15cm some leniency too), and that's without including 100 mm guns, because I think they're different enough to separate them into their own class.

That's all I wanted to say really, share your thoughts in the comments because I'd like to hear them. Is there a gun caliber more consistent than the 15cm? I
s there a gun with more spread out damage than the 105? Do you know any other things in WoT that are balanced in a similar, connected way?
