The Object 705 line is a mini-branch starting at tier VIII with the ISM that focuses on side scraping. All these tanks have rear mounted turrets and good side scrap ability with decent to good alpha. The line often has derpy guns, so close range brawls are the way to go.
General Loadout
The following is the suggested loadout for the line unless stated otherwise in the vehicle section.
Consumables First aid kit, repair kit, fire extinguisher/food Premium versions to taste
Directives Only recommended when training a new commander in 6th sense, when 3 marking a tank, or if having trouble with ammo rack damage before having safe stowage. Go for things to boost survivability or gun stats.
Pros – One of the best side scrapers in the game – Strong armor – Decent DPM
Cons – Low reverse speed – Low view range – Hull has rounded “cheeks” meaning there is always a relatively flat surface facing the enemy. Luckily, this can be hidden around corners. – Low-ish pen – Low-ish ammo capacity – Low accuracy
Playstyle Ok, ok, I know that the pros and cons makes this tank look bad, but trust me when I say, it’s actually quite good! It is one of the most reliable and forgiving side scraping tanks in the game. You can scrape against just about anything with confidence, and you have enough alpha to hit them decently right back. Play to your strengths and side scrape whenever possible and I think you will come to agree that this is a hidden gem of a tank.
Ammo 18/10/2 AP/APCR/HE
Your pen is a bit on the low side, so make sure you have a decnet supply of APCR. The HE is not bad, but you don’t have an overabundance of shells, so don’t go overboard on it.
Pros – High alpha (490, 130mm gun only) – Magic Russian side armor – Strong turret with no weakspots – two viable guns
Cons – Weak armor behind tracks – Weak ammo rack right where people are likely to shoot – Terrible accuracy – Poor gun handling – Can be tracked and penned through the lower plate when angling (but a hard shot to make) – Semi-weak upper hull and cheeks
This tank plays very similarly to the tier X but slightly worse. The key trick to doing well in this vehicle is knowing the correct angle to sidescrape at: a little too much angling, and your side becomes pennable, a little too much and you show lower plate. But, if you angle just right with your gun over the front of your track, you can become almost impenetrable. I say almost because this tanks upper plate isn’t that strong, so gold shells can and will pen it even at optimum angling.
Although side-scraping is the focus of this tank, it is also quite strong hull down with a good turret and no cupolas, vision ports, or other turret weakspots. If you can be hull down and or side-scrape, you can dominate a flank, but if you can’t for some reason, life will be much harder. Don’t get too far away from the action or your very derpy gun will let you down.
Ammo
18/10/2 AP/APCR/HE
Same as the ISM: not a ton of ammo to play with, so don’t waste too much on HE and always have a bit of gold.
Tank Specific Loadout Considerations:
This tank is very prone to getting ammo racked. ModCon or Safe Stowage is almost mandatory.
Ultimate side scraper! (terms and conditions may apply)
Pros – High alpha (650) – Magic Russian side armor – Strong turret with no weakspots – 152mm caliber gun
Cons – Weak armor behind tracks – Weak ammo rack right where people are likely to shoot – Terrible accuracy – Poor gun handling – Can be tracked and penned through the lower plate when angling (but a hard shot to make)
Just like the tier IX, play to the scenarios where your armor is best: hull down and side scraping. Hull down, you have no weakspots. Side scraping, you can have practically no weakspots. Unlike the tier IX, your upper hull is strong enough to regularly shrug of most gold rounds. Not unlike the tier IX, though, you need to beware over or under angling. Your arc of effective armor is quite narrow, and outside of it, you can and will get penned.
Your large alpha lets you trade quite well with most heavies, and your 152mm gun lets you overmatch a few 50mm plates most people forget exist (e.g. 60TP roof, STRV 103b). Use that to your advantage to catch your enemies flatfooted.
Ammo
17/10/3 AP/HEAT/HE
You have the same shell count as you have the whole line, but not your shells do more damage. I’d consider bringing 3 as opposed to 2 HE shells because the 152mm caliber makes the HE fairly effective when fighting side scraping enemies.
Tank Specific Loadout Considerations:
This tank is very prone to getting ammo racked. ModCon or Safe Stowage is almost mandatory.
Rating: 7.5/10
This line gets slept on in my opinion. It’s by no means meta-definingly good, but none of the tanks are particularly bad either. They specialize in one particular thing and do it (for the most part) very well. Outside of their comfort zone, they are fairly weak, which is probably why you don’t see them too much. Despite their inflexibility, I think this is a great line for intermediate players to grind out or anyone who wants to learn to side scrape better to practice with. So, if you are looking for your next tier X, why not try the 705A?
What do you think?
Do you agree with my summary? Did I miss anything?
Have you played the line? What did you like? What did you hate?
What do you think when you see some of these tanks on the battlefield?
If you could make a change to this line, what would it be?
