A sad day for my fishing career, and some thoughts on fishing

How to build a large and tall house in Valheim

The biggest cod I've ever seen just jumped onto my boat. Sadly I'm doing my Noah's Ark thing and bringing some wolves from my old longhouse base, which has been my home base from the start through Moder, to my new one in the Plains. As the fish flopped around, my wolves formed a phalanx, blocking me from my prize. By the time I'd pushed through, the cod had flopped over to the edge of the boat, leaning against the railing. I desperately pressed E as it bounced around before it finally manged to return to the sea from whence it came. I've never been so heartbroken by a fish.

As a funny aside, I yesterday was bringing ore to my new base. All of a sudden I noticed I was being poisoned. As I was passing through a swamp biome, I though maybe a leech had bit my boat and hit me via some buggy hit detection. But as I sailed, the poison counter continued to reset, and I was entering the danger zone with my HP. Just in time, I found a pufferfish that had landed just next to my pilots bench. Relieved, I harvested it.

Finally, does anyone know approximately what % of ice caves have tetrafish ponds? I found one on my first playthrough and nothing since. I really need that hat. I fish about 5% of my playtime and I'm having trouble keeping my skill above 15 due to deaths during other activities. I'd really like to see this rebalanced so that players can have their fishing skill increase even if they're dying occasionally without having to devote a few hours to fishing every couple days. Ideally i think only combat skills should lose levels, with other skills only losing progress towards next level on death.
This is made worse by the fact that its rare to collect more than a few fish in one game day, so skill growth is one of the slowest in the game, even if you dedicate a reasonable amount of time (I spend at least as much time fishing as all my other domestic tasks combined).
