I am playing at ranks 2 – low legends, and it has been few months now, that I barely if ever give a GG to my enemy, regardless if I win or lose, every match either has some broken cards that feel like you can only beat if you play some other broken card of your own, or they misplay hard, either that, or they play some fun sucking deck that just makes you want to quit.
In Syndicate it is KOB,
in Northern Realms it is Raffi, and his variations of siege/mages,
in Scoiatal it is Milva [feels balanced after the nerf, but still not fun to play against] and traps,
in Monsters it is Kelly, (and rarely that meme deck that summons few mistresses)
in Skellige it is Melusine (Altough Melusine is a lesser offender of the others in this list)
in NG – the most common (from my experience) NG is the assimilate mid range, I honestly quiet enjoy those matchups and it feels weird that NG is the lesser offender of this list, but from time to time Kolgrim still rearing his ugly head.
Now, in terms of balancing, when those cards face each other, it somewhat works, from my perspective, balance between the factions is great, but we are experiencing something worse – every faction have few selected cards, whose power level is absurd, and if you don't play those you can't compete in higher ranks, and that funnels everyone to a list of around 10 viable decks, with no option to try something new (until a patch comes and introduces a broken ass card for a new archetype).
I am ready for the rain of downvotes, since almost all of you play one of those decks, and god forbid you will admit you play something that's broken and unfun
Edit: I forgot to say, I DO play some variations of those decks, I am not proud of it, but I don't enjoy getting stomped either
Edit 2: as u/youherbert said, exactly what I meant – The current problem is that you used to do really well with homebrew decks, even if they didn't employ the faction's strongest cards, today it isn't possible, you would be stuck on low ranks (which isn't terrible), and every few games you will face a meta deck which will stomp you (which IS terrible)
