Gwent players do not care about deck variety

gerald witcher 3 gwent table

Long rant here. Please consider that I am just a casual player who barely made pro rank last season.

The last BC votes made one thing perfectly clear: the vast majority of Gwent players do not want the game to emphasize variety; they just want to follow the status quo. I am not implying that I was glad with the numerous NG nerfs from 2 weeks ago, nor that some cards should be nerfed to being unplayable, even though I still hate reavers.

Half of the changes from yesterday simply reverted the cards that were changed. HALF. Do pro players just want their top tier deck to remain untouched forever? It still baffles me that so many people thought Braathens and Vigo needed buffs. Dosen has clearly demonstrated over the last few months that assimilate has been doing more than well.

Sure, NG was overnerfed, so maybe 2-3 buffs would have been sufficient for now…but 8 out of 10? With 6 of them just cancelling the previous BC? Doesn't that just scream "boring" to you? Would it really have been that bad to shelf NG for a few weeks? Or at least, can players not think of a few other decks to play rather than the same 3-4 that have dominated the meta for almost a year now? Would it really have been that devastating to not see so much NG soldiers and status decks for a while?

This BC was a complete waste in terms of chances to really bring variety for once. I do agree that some cards definitely deserved to be reverted. I'm looking at you Compass and reaver scouts/hunters. The most satisfying change for me was Oakcritters. Finally devotion is getting some love!

Meanwhile, cards like Tyr, Simlas and Renfri will keep playing for 20+ points without any thoughtful setup, and I doubt many players voted for them to be nerfed, because they're so easy to play.

Finally, whether you agree with me or not, can we all agree that 5 slots per category is not enough to really make a change? Especially if half of them keep simply reverting back previous changes? 15 was maybe a bit overkill, but what about 10?

I would like to hear your thoughts on this, because this is just my opinion, and I know many players have a better understanding of the game than I. If you already have an idea what you are voting for this time, please let me know. Thanks!
